Reaction
“Reaction” is an exciting journey into Contemporary Art.
A captivating participatory performance that unveils the beauty and extraordinary world of Modern and Contemporary Art. Engaging, emotional, visionary, and easily accessible, it reveals the magic of art and is open to a wide and diverse audience.
From Claes Oldenburg’s Pop Art to the minimalist sculptures of John McCracken, passing through the conceptual works of Haim Steinbach and Ai Weiwei, “Reaction” is a surprising live performance that guides the audience through a fascinating adventure into Modern and Contemporary Art.
The performance can take place both in museum spaces and in outdoor settings.
The performance “Reaction” can also be developed as a site-specific project, capable of generating new performances in direct relation to the artworks of the hosting context — whether it be a contemporary art museum, outdoor installations, international art fairs, or festivals.
In this version, the performance can be created together with a group of non-professionals, following a hands-on workshop experience. At the end of the project, the participants will present “Reaction” alongside the performers of Stalker Teatro, becoming co-protagonists of an event that actively involves the entire audience.
Structure of the site-specific project
Phase 1 – Organization and co-design
Planning meetings to define the selected artworks within the museum or location and to identify the working group. Launch of the communication and outreach campaign.
Phase 2 – Workshop
A one-week workshop made up of 4 to 5 sessions, each lasting 3 to 4 hours, designed for a group of approximately 20 participants.
Phase 3 – Public presentation
One or more public performances showcasing the spectacular actions developed during the workshop, performed by the participants together with the company’s artists.
Stalker Teatro
The artistic core of Stalker Teatro has worked together since establishing the “Political Collective” at the Turin Academy of Fine Arts in 1975, during the peak of Italy’s post-1968 cultural and political upheaval. This formative period left a lasting imprint on the company, whose work is defined by a strong commitment to artistic experimentation in socially sensitive and challenging contexts.
In the 1980s, drawing on their shared experience with master Jerzy Grotowski, they began a residency in Italy’s largest psychiatric clinic in Grugliasco. This pivotal experience led to the formal foundation of Stalker Teatro in 1986, inspired by the film Stalker by Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky.
During the 1990s, as part of a five-year residency at Cittadellarte, Stalker Teatro developed significant projects with Michelangelo Pistoletto, working across Italy and Europe in festivals, theaters, universities, and prestigious contemporary art museums.
In the 2000s, the group established themselves in the Vallette district of Turin, a peripheral neighborhood where they created “Officine CAOS“, a cultural hub dedicated to artistic production, urban regeneration, and social inclusion.
From the 2010s onward, with a distinctive style that blends site-specific events, performance art, and participatory theater, Stalker Teatro has performed at major venues and festivals throughout Europe and beyond.
